Broadway Theatre
Broadway Theatre
The Broadway Theatre is located in the heart of Times Square, the largest crossroads in the world. It was built in 1924 by Benjamin Sommer and was called the Colony Theatre. The name was changed to the Broadway Theatre in 1930. It is the fourth-oldest continuously operating theatre in America. The building was the first to show films in the United States, in 1927. In 1932, Walt Disney released Steamboat Willie, his first animated cartoon, which premiered there. It was renamed the Broadway in 1934. From 1934 to 1940, it showed films. In 1940, it returned to live theatre, and remained open ever since.
